With Kristof G., Julien Dallaire-Charest, Guillaume Menuel, Voro, Félix LaFlamme, François Lapierre, and Jeik Dion
Born in the shadows half a century ago and often demonized by the media, heavy metal has forged its own path by striking a chord with many. This thunderous genre has always been fueled by the passion of legions of devotees, drawing its strength from the raw energy it exudes. With such a rich culture and avant-garde bent, Quebec has given birth to a host of artists who have left an indelible mark on the history of local metal, and sometimes even on the global scene.
Written by seasoned cultural journalist Christophe “Kristof G.” Gagné, this second volume of L'Histoire de 5 grands groupes de metal du Québec (The History of 5 Great Quebec Metal Bands) is enhanced by the graphic interpretations of a collective of accomplished comic book artists: Julien Dallaire-Charest, Jeik Dion, Félix LaFlamme, François Lapierre, Guillaume Menuel, and VoRo.
This graphic festival highlights the extreme metal of B.A.R.F., the technical death metal of Cryptopsy, the blackened death metal of Necronomicon, the classic heavy metal of Sword, and the unclassifiable metal of Voïvod (the second decade). In the first part, we also discover a little-known but highly influential figure: tape trader Wayne Archibald.
Between moments of pure creative chaos, memorable anecdotes, poignant stories, and incredible encounters, this album pays tribute to a handful of Quebec bands that helped shape metal as we know it today, while inspiring generations of fans here and abroad.
